1948 Rule V Draft
In the 1948 Rule V Draft 217 players total were drafted by the major and minor league clubs. 21 players were drafted by major league teams at a cost of $200,000, while minor league teams selected 196 players at a cost of $353,000. The major league portion was held November 10-12 in Cincinnati, OH, while the minor league portion ran from Novemeber 15-26 in Columbus, OH. Additionally, 3 umpires were drafted by the minor leagues, all by the Canadian-American League.

* Portland neglected to list Reich's status as a bonus player, and it was not until several days after the draft that the status was discovered. As a result, Portland's roster was re-opened and the Cubs selected Kowalski.
