Biographical Information[edit]
Prior to his major league career, Johnny Simmons played basketball in the NBL, a predecessor of the NBA.
Simmons was in the majors one year, in 1949, when he appeared in 62 games for the 1949 Washington Senators. However, only 26 of those games were in the field, where he played left and right field.
The Brooklyn Dodgers drafted him from the New York Yankees in 1947, and he played for their minor league team in Montreal in 1948, and later in 1952.
