Seung-yeop Lee was one of the most prolific home run hitters in the Korea Baseball Organization, where he was a five-time MVP, the most in league history. He also was named the best player at his position ten times, a league record. He set single-season home run records for the KBO and Asia (the latter being broken). He then played for eight years in Nippon Pro Baseball before returning to the KBO. He hit 646 homers between the KBO and NPB. Despite 7 years away, he held the KBO career homer record for a period. Lee also shares the mark for most homers in a World Baseball Classic. Not just a home run threat, he was the first KBO player to 2,000 career hits. Hall of Fame manager Whitey Herzog (pictured) dies at age 92. Ronel Blanco of the Houston Astros pitches a no-hitter against the Toronto Blue Jays. The Tiburones de La Guaira win their first ever Caribbean Series title; Ricardo Pinto in named Caribbean Series MVP. Jesús Feliciano, César Tovar, Odell Jones, Francisco Campos and Julian Tavarez are inducted into the Caribbean Baseball Hall of Fame. Ángel Padrón of La Guaira becomes only the second pitcher in the history of the Caribbean Series to pitch a no-hitter in defeating Rivas, 9-0.

May 12: Today's featured birthday is that of Kenny Greer, who turns 57. 1926 - Walter Johnson picks up his 400th win in the majors by beating the Browns, 7-4. 1955 - Toothpick Sam Jones throws a no-hitter against the Pirates, ending with three straight strikeouts. It is the first no-hitter by an African-American pitcher in MLB history and the first no-hitter at Wrigley Field in 38 years. 1962 - Craig Anderson (pictured) wins both ends of a doubleheader. He will drop the next 19 decisions in his major league career, never winning again. 1970 - Ernie Banks homers to left against Pat Jarvis for his 500th career home run. 2004 - Alex Cora fouls off 14 consecutive pitches before delivering a two-run homer against Matt Clement in a 4-0 win by the Dodgers.
