Biographical Information[edit]

Rafael Valle had one of the most famous games in Nicaraguan baseball history and was on the Nicaraguan national team.

In Nicaragua's amateur league in 1972, he hit .274/.388/.355 for Chinandega, then .274/.343/.402 with a league-leading seven sacrifice flies in 1973. [1] He played for Nicaragua when they won Silver in the 1973 FEMBA Amateur World Series. [2] He batted .277/.361/.369 in 1974 and stole 16 bases in 27 tries, leading the league in times caught stealing. [3] He won Silver with Nicaragua in the 1974 Amateur World Series. [4]

Valle hit .250/.314/.283 in 1975 and .287/.343/.385 with Esteli in 1976. [5] He was with Nicaragua in the 1976 Amateur World Series [6] and hit .300 when they won Gold in the 1977 Central American Games. [7] In 1977, he hit .296/.370/.378 in a return to Chinandega. He batted .295/.325/.482 with 15 homers and 61 RBI in 86 games in '78; he tied for the league lead with 8 sac flies. [8] He made history with a five-homer game on May 2, batting 9th. It is the Nicaraguan record for dingers. [9]

In 1979, he hit .291/.354/.423. He ended his career with Corinto, batting .294/.335/.386 in 1981 and .203/.319/.237 in '82. He had batted .280/.345/.383 with 39 homers, 319 runs and 337 RBI in 665 games, but 5 of them coming in a record-setting performance. [10]
