Biographical Information[edit]

Hank Bunnell pitched for Team USA and in the minors.

He was a 12th-round pick of the Detroit Tigers in the 1967 amateur draft but opted for college. He was All-Southern Conference as a freshman. He was with Team USA for the 1969 Amateur World Series, going 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 22 K in 15 IP in blowing away Guatemala and Nicaragua; the US won Silver. As a junior, he won 9 games, threw a no-hitter against the University of Scranton and became the only documented GWU hurler to win both games of a doubleheader, allowing only four hits over two contests versus William & Mary. He was again All-Southern as a senior and was second in school annals in wins (30) and first in strikeouts (360), shutouts (8) and complete games (36; more than double anyone else) entering 2024. He also hit .344. The Washington Senators took him in the 1971 draft.

Bunnell was 4-6 with a 3.26 ERA for the 1971 Burlington Senators, walking 24 in 94 innings and hitting .200/.238/.275. In '72, he had a 7-5, 3.62 record for the AA Pittsfield Rangers.
