Biographical Information[edit]

Son of Larry Gilbert and brother of Tookie Gilbert, Charlie Gilbert came up originally with the Brooklyn Dodgers ten years before his brother Tookie broke in with the New York Giants. He was in the majors for six years.

After Charlie's major league career, he played in the minors with the Nashville Vols, where his father Larry had been (and perhaps still was) a co-owner. He was drafted by the Boston Braves in the 1948 Rule V Draft from the Nashville roster, but didn't play after 1948. His brother Tookie also played in Nashville in the late 1940s, before coming up for his two years in the majors.

He set Southern Association records with 155 walks and 178 runs for Nashville in 1948.
