Biographical Information

Dwain "Lefty" Sloat pitched nine games in the majors and had substantial success as a minor leaguer, winning in double digits five times while only losing in double digits twice.

Lefty was a World War II veteran and worked for a brewery after his baseball days.

He dominated the Texas League in 1947 while with the Fort Worth Cats, winning 17 games and leading the league in ERA and strikeouts. He also won 10 games with the Cats during a partial season in 1948.

The book Baseball in Toledo has a photo of Sloat, and indicates that he played for Toledo from 1949-51. In addition to pitching he also played some first base, with a .320 batting average over the three-year period.

He pitched for Grand Forks in 1938-40, spending time each year with other clubs as well. He was also with St. Paul in 1940, 1941 and 1946.
