Team History[edit]
At first the Portsmouth Cubs shared their home games between two ballparks, the older and conventional Sewanee Stadium, and the modern City Stadium, which had more capacity, but also a very unusual shape as it also housed a football field. They moved permanently into City Stadium in 1941.
Ken Guettler led the Piedmont League with 30 HR and 116 RBI in 1951 and 28 HR and 104 RBI in 1952. He also won HR titles in the Piedmont in 1953 and 1955 after Portsmouth became the Portsmouth Merrimacs.
