Biographical Information[edit]
Gene Markland, who had one hit in the majors, playing for the Philadelphia Athletics in 1950, is featured in the book One Hit Wonders: Baseball Stories.
Markland started in pro ball in 1939. He was in military service from 1942 to 1945 during World War II.
He hit around .300 a couple of times for the Buffalo Bisons in 1949 and 1950.
He retired from pro baseball during the 1952 season.
