2024 Rule V Draft

The 2024 Rule V Draft was held on Wednesday, December 11th at 2:00 p.m. EST at the MLB Winter Meetings in Dallas, TX.

Fewer players were signed in 2020 than is typical due to the unusual circumstances caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. And then in 2021 the Draft was truncated to 20 rounds, down from 40 before the pandemic. Fewer prospects overall were signed during that period compared to years prior, leading to the smaller crop of Rule 5 eligible prospects in 2024.

However, this was not really evident in the draft, as 15 players were selected in the major league portion, a slightly-above-average number compared to previous years. Once again pitchers dominated the drafted, with 11 of the 15 selections being moundsmen.
