Biographical Information[edit]

Gabriel Barbosa has pitched in the minors and for the Brazilian national team.

Barbosa was signed by the Colorado Rockies in 2018. [1] He split 2019 between the DSL Rockies and DSL Colorado, going 4-2 with a 4.28 ERA. Oddly, while the two teams were in the same league, he had a 1.17 ERA for one and 10.97 for the other! The 2020 minor league season was wiped out by the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, he was with the same two teams, going 3-2 with a 2.20 ERA in 13 games, walking only four in 45 innings with a 0.78 WHIP.

In '22, he was with the ACL Rockies (5-0, Sv, 3.46, 4 BB in 39 IP) and Fresno Grizzlies (1-0, 5.40 in 1 G). He tied for fourth in the Arizona Complex League in wins. He then joined Brazil for the 2022 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers. He started their opener versus New Zealand and got the win over Ben Thompson but allowed three runs in 2 2/3 IP before Heitor Tokar took over; he walked Andrew Marck in the second, allowed a double to Beau Bishop, plunked Daniel Lamb-Hunt and gave up a three-run double to Max Brown. In his other game, he fared much better; relieving Tokar in the second with a 2-0 deficit against Nicaragua. He allowed only a Steven Leytón single in four innings, walking none and striking out two, then Oscar Nakaoshi succeeded him, but Brazil still lost, 3-1. He was 5th in the two qualifiers in IP (between Federico Robles and Daniel Padyšák, leading Brazil). Only Nakaoshi pitched more games for Brazil and Felipe Sales had their only other win. [2]
