Biographical Information[edit]

Felipe Sales has pitched for the Brazilian national team.

Sales played for Brazil in the 2005 World Youth Championship. He allowed a walk to the only batter he faced in the COPABE qualifiers for the 2008 Olympics. He later played for Yamaha in Japan's industrial leagues. In the 2017 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers, he was one of two Brazilian team members active with Yamaha; the other was Reinaldo Sato. Sales was the only Brazilian to pitch in multiple games in the qualifiers (Brazil lasted three games) though his 3.38 ERA was the team's highest. Against Israel, he relieved Murilo Gouvea with a 1-0 deficit. He walked Mike Meyers, struck out Zach Borenstein, walked Ryan Lavarnway, fanned Nate Freiman, then was relieved by Hugo Kanabushi. In the semifinals against Great Britain, he relieved Andre Rienzo in the 6th with a 3-2 deficit. He allowed two hits, two walks and one run in two innings (the run coming when Kyle Simmons singled in Albert Cartwright) before Thyago Vieira relieved with the score now 4-3; neither team would score again.

In the 2019 Pan American Games Qualifier, he outdueled Porfirio López of the Dominican national team 1-0 through six (2 H, 2 BB, 5 K) before former major leaguer Rienzo blew the lead. He led the event in ERA (Pedro Viola was next at 0.00, but in two fewer innings). He was a bright spot on a winless team, making the tourney All-Star team as the top starting pitcher, the lone Brazilian picked. He was on Brazil's roster for the 2020 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers before those were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
