Biographical Information

Michael Meyers has been a minor league outfielder.

Meyers was All-State as a high school senior. He was picked by the Boston Red Sox in the 12th round of the 2012 amateur draft, one round before they took J.B. Wendelken; the scout was Jim Woodward. He hit .337/.384/.478 as an infielder for the GCL Red Sox that summer, including a Gulf Coast League-best .446 in August. He did not have enough plate appearances (he had 100) to qualify for the league leaders on the summer. Moving to LF in 2013, he played for the GCL Red Sox (.256/.316/.326 in 26 G) and Lowell Spinners (2 for 8, 3B).

In 2014, he hit .215/.248/.330 for Lowell but set a team record with three triples on August 25 and set another record with 9 triples for the year (to 6 doubles and 0 homers). He led the New York-Penn League in three-baggers, two ahead of Steven Fuentes. The next year, he split time between the Greenville Drive (.2906/.364/.426 in 92 G) and Salem Red Sox (.164/.233/.239 in 17 G). He tied for 5th in the Red Sox chain with 6 triples and tied Yoan Moncada and Derek Miller for 8th in walks (42). He hit .272/.328/.384 with 9 tr[;es and 26 steals in 31 tries for Salem in 2016. He tied for 6th in the Red Sox chain in triples and tied Bryan Hudson for 4th in swipes. In the Carolina League, he was second in triples (one behind teammate Danny Mars) and tied Hudson for 8th in stolen bases.

Meyers started in center field for the Israeli national team in the 2017 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers in their first two games (the prior minor leaguer named Mike Meyers had incidentally played for Canada in the original World Baseball Classic). He was 0 for 2 in the opener but his sacrifice fly in the 7th off Vaughan Harris scored Rhett Wiseman with the tying run as Israel rallied to beat Great Britain. In game 2, he was 0 for 2 and drew a walk from Felipe Sales of Brazil. For the finale, also against Britain, he was replaced by Blake Gailen as the starting center fielder but entered as a defensive sub in the 9th as Israel won a spot in the 2017 World Baseball Classic.
