Biographical Information

Jim Woodward reached AA as a player then became a scout.

Woodward was taken by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 9th round of the January 1979 draft out of junior college. The New York Mets chose him in the 16th round of the 1980 amateur draft, one pick after future major leaguer Ricky Jones. He hit .230/.276/.268 in his pro debut for the Little Falls Mets, fielding .934 at shortstop. He started at 3B for the 1981 Lynchburg Mets, batting .264/.311/.316 and stealing 16 bases in 17 tries, but fielding only .874 at the hot corner with 34 errors. In 1982, he improved his fielding percentage at 3B to .939 for the Jackson Mets but hit only .233/.282/.341. In his final season, 1983, he was a utility man for Jackson and hit .207/.259/.309.

Overall, Woodward played 375 minor league games, batting .237/.285/.314 with 164 runs, 122 RBI, 15 home runs and 36 steals in 53 tries. He fielded .911 in 240 games at 3B, .948 in 83 at 2B and .938 in 46 at SS.

Woodward later scouted for the New York Mets (1985-1995), San Diego Padres (1996-2001) and Boston Red Sox (2002- ). He signed Abe Alvarez, Justin Germano, Ryan Jaroncyk, Jorge Jiménez and Mike Meyers.
