Biographical Information[edit]

Abe Alvarez allowed an unearned run in 1 1/3 innings in the 2002 World University Championship. He was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 2nd round of the 2003 amateur draft. Alvarez was signed by scout Jim Woodward and made his pro debut that summer. All told, he made four career appearances in the bigs, all with the Sawx between 2004 and 2006.

Alvarez debuted in Italy on April 9, 2009, as the Opening Day starter for Reggio Emilia. He tossed six shutout innings against T&A San Marino but was matched by Horacio Estrada and got a no-decision.

Alvarez was an assistant coach at University of Nevada, Reno in 2018-2022 then moved to Brigham Young University in 2023.
