Team History[edit]
The Tulsa Drillers, of the Double-A Texas League and briefly in Double-A Central, are watched over from beyond the outfield by a giant mural likeness of Brooklyn Dodgers great Jackie Robinson. The Los Angeles Dodgers farmhands play their home games at ONEOK Field in Tulsa, OK.
The Drillers commissioned the mural of the man who broke MLB's color line in 1947 to commemorate 100 years since the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre.
In 2015, the Dodgers coaxed the Drillers away from the Colorado Rockies just as several Dodgers co-owners made the nearby Oklahoma City RedHawks the Dodgers' Triple-A team by buying them and renaming them the Oklahoma City Dodgers.
When the American Association's Tulsa Oilers moved to New Orleans, LA, becoming the New Orleans Pelicans for 1977, country music star Roy Clark put a Double-A franchise in Tulsa by buying and moving the Lafayette Drillers and raising funds to build Driller Park.
Tulsa and their regional rival Wichita Wind Surge play their season series for the Propeller Trophy.
The Drillers play Copa de la Diversión Hispanic engagement campaign games as Petroleros de Tulsa - a straight translation of the brand of an earlier Tulsa franchise that played as the Tulsa Oilers.
