Biographical Information[edit]
1B/3B Jim Skaalen was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in 1976 and played three seasons in the minor leagues, hitting .246 with 15 homers in 251 games.
After his playing days ended, he was a coach for the Daytona Beach Astros in 1981, before managing in the San Diego Padres system from 1982 to 1985. He managed in the Texas Rangers chain for three years and was the minor league hitting instructor in 1990. He then moved to the Seattle Mariners where he was the coordinator of minor league instruction for six years, then returned to San Diego as the Farm Director from 1997-1999. Skaalen then moved to the Milwaukee Brewers as minor league hitting coordinator. He was named the big league Brewers hitting coach after the 2006 season.
Skaalen's father Morris Skaalen played minor league ball from 1938 to 1941 before serving in World War II.
