Biographical Information[edit]
Terrmel Sledge collected the final RBI in Montreal Expos history. His 1st-inning hit in their final game, on October 3, 2004, scored Jamey Carroll for the final run in team history. He also got the Expos' final hit, an 8th-inning single.
Sledge was traded on December 7, 2005 from the Washington Nationals to the Texas Rangers with OF Brad Wilkerson and RHP Armando Galarraga for 2B Alfonso Soriano. He signed with the Nippon Ham Fighters for 2008 and hit .289/.361/.473. His 16 homers and 69 RBI were both second on the club behind Atsunori Inaba.
The Mitchell Report noted that Sledge tested positive for the steroid Andro in 2004.
Sledge became an assistant hitting coach for the Eugene Emeralds in 2015. Moving to the Los Angeles Dodgers' chain, he became hitting coach of the Tulsa Drillers in 2016-2018. In 2019, he was named assistant hitting coach of the Chicago Cubs, staying until the end of the 2020 season. Sledge returned to the field as hitting coach of the Amarillo Sod Poodles in 2023-2024.
