Biographical Information[edit]

Dave Borkowski was originally drafted by the Detroit Tigers and made his debut on national television on July 17, 1999 against the Houston Astros. For his major league career, Borkowski appeared in 181 games (21 starts) and was 13-20 with one save and a 5.87 ERA in seven combined seasons with the Tigers (1999-2001), Baltimore Orioles (2004), and Houston Astros (2006-2008). Borkowski finished his playing career in 2009, splitting the season between the AAA Lehigh Valley IronPigs and the Diablos Rojos del México in the Mexican League.

Borkowski turned to coaching after his playing career ended. He was the pitching coach for the Greeneville Astros in 2010, Lexington Legends in 2011-2012, and Quad Cities River Bandits in 2013-2015. In 2015, the River Bandits went 88-50 which was the second best record in minor league baseball. Borkowski's staff posted a 1.15 WHIP and 2.65 ERA which slotted first and second, respectively, among full-season clubs. During Borkowski's three year tenure, Quad Cities captured the 2013 Midwest League title, while River Bandits pitchers authored a 3.35 ERA, 1.27 WHIP, .248 opponents' batting average, and 30 shutouts. The Astros promoted Borkowski to the AA Corpus Christi Hooks in 2016 and the success continued. Hooks' pitchers ranked among the Texas League leaders in saves (55, 1st), shutouts (15, T-1st), and ERA (3.49, 2nd). Hooks hurlers issued the fewest walks (345) while registering the second-most strikeouts (1,132) in the circuit. The 15 shutout victories stand as a Corpus Christi record. Borkowski returned to the Hooks in 2017 to finish the Astros portion of his coaching career.

The Los Angeles Dodgers hired Borkowski in 2018 for their pitching coach position with the Tulsa Drillers. He remained with the Drillers through the 2021 season. During the cancelled 2020 minor league season, Borkowski was part of the alternate training site coaching staff for the Dodgers. The Dodgers promoted Borkowski in 2022 to the AAA Oklahoma City Dodgers where he oversaw a staff that held a 4.87 ERA, the third lowest in the hitter friendly Pacific Coast League.

Borkowski changed organizations again in 2023 and was named the pitching coach for the Round Rock Express in the Texas Rangers farm system. He retained that role in 2024 before becoming the bullpen coach for the Express in 2025.

In addition to the work outlined above, Borkowski twice coached in the Arizona Fall League. He was an assistant pitching coach for the Peoria Javelinas in 2013 and a coach for the Glendale Desert Dogs in 2019.
