Team History[edit]
The Round Rock Express, of the Pacific Coast League and briefly in Triple-A West, lost their parent Houston Astros in MLB's 2021 Minor League Reorganization. The now-Texas Rangers farmhands play their home games at Dell Diamond in Round Rock, TX.
"Express" is for Hall-of-Fame pitcher Nolan "The Ryan Express" Ryan. In 2000, Ryan Sanders Baseball - founded in 1998 by Ryan's son Reid and owned by Reid, Nolan, Nolan's other son Reese, and former Astros owner Don A. Sanders - bought the Texas League's Jackson Generals to move them to Austin, TX, but its suburb Round Rock intercepted with a better playpen deal. In 2005, RSB bought the PCL's Edmonton Trappers to bring Round Rock Triple-A ball, moving the Double-A club to Corpus Christi, TX, where they became the Corpus Christi Hooks. When the Rock opened up, the Rangers promptly returned from Nashville, TN, where a signed 2019-2023 affiliation lasted only one season; the Coronavirus pandemic canceled the 2020 campaign and then the minors were reorganized.
The Express play Copa de la Diversión Hispanic campaign games as Chupacabras de Round Rock (a chupacabra is a legendary creature that attacks animals and drinks their blood; "chupar" translates as "to suck" and "cabra" means "goat").
