Biographical Information

Jeff Hubbard has been a minor league player, coach and owner.

Hubbard was taken by the Baltimore Orioles in the 12th round of the 1984 amateur draft, one round before they took Pete Stanicek. He hit .239/.327/.310 as a utility man for the 1984 Bluefield Orioles. In 1985, he was the starting third baseman for the Daytona Beach Admirals, producing at a .290/.374/.363 clip. He missed the league qualifiers by 12 plate appearances or he would have tied Marty Pevey and Mauricio Nunez for 7th in average.

Moving to the Minnesota Twins chain for 1986, he hit .281/.393/.326 in 58 games as a backup corner infielder for the Visalia Oaks. In 1987, he played for the Tulsa Drillers of the Texas Rangers chain, a team owned by his father Went Hubbard. Jeff batted .172/.284/.241 in 21 games. During 1988, he played for the Port Charlotte Rangers, playing 3B (hitting .234/.275/.250) and also pitching (2-4, 2 Sv, 4.17 in 22 G, only 12 BB in 49 2/3 IP). He had hit .265/.355/.325 with 90 runs and 90 RBI in 256 games as a pro.

Hubbard coached for Charlotte in 1989-1990 and Tulsa in 1991. He opened a fitness center called Fitness World in Durham, NC and still ran that a couple decades later when he and brother Dale Hubbard became co-chairmen and later co-owners of the Drillers, the same club their father had owned.
