Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Mauricio Nunez played in the St. Louis Cardinals system from 1982 to 1991. He did not play beyond Single-A until 1988. He played for the St. Petersburg Cardinals from 1984 to 1987.

The speedster stole 11 bases in 65 games for the Johnson City Cardinals in 1983, had a down year in 1984, then batted .290 in 128 games for St. Petersburg in 1985. He stole 17 bases in 1986, then swiped 44 in 1987. He was a Florida State League All-Star that year. He hit .226/.273/.301 in 111 games in his first season at Double-A in 1988; back at Single-A for 1989, he hit .308/.362/.424 with 32 swipes in 95 games for the Savannah Cardinals. In his first year at Triple-A, 1990, he hit .248/.291/.299 with 4 steals in 214 at-bats in a reserve role—he spelled the likes of Bernard Gilkey and Ray Lankford. He played just 22 games in 1991 to wrap up his career.

Overall, Nunez batted .255/.312/.338 with 30 home runs, 339 RBI and 137 stolen bases in 928 games over 10 seasons.
