Team History[edit]
The St. Lucie Mets, of the Single-A Florida State League and briefly in Low-A Southeast, have a highly unusual playoff history - when they get in, they win. The New York Mets farmhands play their home games at Clover Park in Port St. Lucie, FL.
The former Daytona Beach Admirals moved into what was then named Thomas J. White Stadium after the 1987 season. They made the playoffs in 1988, 1996, 1998, 2003, 2006 and 2022 - which may seem sporadic but actually beats the odds in a circuit that was comprised of 12-14 teams until 2020 - and each time went on to capture the championship.
They should have had a chance to extend the unusual string in 2021 - or, of course, to break it - but they didn't play in the post-season despite winning their division. MLB's original Coronavirus pandemic comeback plan for the 2021 minors season did not include playoffs; in July, MLB restored them but tossed the leagues' pre-panic postseason formats. In each Low-A through Double-A league, the top two teams in winning percentage - regardless of division standings - made the field, which left the Mets out.
MLB's 2021 Minor League Reorganization lowered the Mets, and most of the FSL, one level.
After Heisman Trophy winner and former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow's June 2017 promotion from the Columbia Fireflies, St. Lucie attendance spiked to a season record in less than six weeks. He slugged a home run his first day with these Mets, and on the first pitch he saw when he opened 2018 with Double-A Binghamton, NY.
Like seven of the other nine FSL teams, the SL-Mets are owned by their parent club.
