Biographical Information[edit]

Switch-hitting Tim Blackwell was a dependable major league backstop for parts of 10 major league seasons. His best year by far was 1980, when he hit .272 for the Chicago Cubs, starting in place of the injured Barry Foote.

Blackwell was a coach for the Phoenix Giants in 1984 and Phoenix Firebirds 1988 and the San Francisco Giants' minor league catching instructor in 1987. He was the Milwaukee Brewers minor league catching instructor from 1999 to 2002. After serving as pitching coach of the San Diego Surf Dawgs in the independent Golden Baseball League in 2006, the former big league catcher served as skipper of the Winston-Salem Warthogs in 2007.
