Team History[edit]
The High Desert Mavericks played in the Class A California League from 1991 to 2016. The team came into being when the owners of the Riverside Red Wave, Hall of Famer George Brett and his brothers (John, Bob, and Kemmer), moved the club to Adelanto, CA for the 1991 season. The Mavericks won the California League title their first season, and in 1993, and 1997. The club has called Mavericks Stadium home since their inaugural season.
The 1994 Co-op team received players from 9 major league teams, notably 10 players from the Boston Red Sox, 8 players from the Cleveland Indians, and 4 players from the Montreal Expos (including Hanley Frias).
As the 2016 season was winding down, the California League announced that it would contract two teams, High Desert and the Bakersfield Blaze, at the end of the season, to allow the Carolina League to expand by two franchises.
