Biographical Information[edit]

Rafael Santo Domingo had a cup of coffee in the majors, hitting .167 as a September call-up for the Cincinnati Reds in 1979.

Prior to his major league debut, he was already working as a scout for the Reds in Puerto Rico.

"That's right. George Zuraw is our scouting supervisor for the Florida, Caribbean, Central America and Mexico area. It's a lot of territory to cover. So, Zuraw hired Santo Domingo as a part-time scout and assigned him to the Puerto Rican Winter League."

"Santo Domingo's role is an unusual one, especially for a player as young as he is."

Sheldon "Chief" Bender, Reds' director of player personnel[1]

After his playing career ended, he spent time as a full-time scout. He was a coach for the AZL Mariners in 2005, the Inland Empire 66ers in 2006, High Desert Mavericks in 2007, the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in 2008, the Pulaski Mariners in 2009-2012 and Everett AquaSox in 2013. As a Mariners scout, he signed Jorge Benítez.
