Biographical Information[edit]

After graduating from high school in Charleroi, Pennsylvania, George Zuraw played several seasons of minor league baseball, missing two years while serving in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. After his playing days, he became a Pittsburgh Pirates scout through 1967. He then scouted for the Cincinnati Reds from 1968 to 1988. He signed Ray Knight, Jeff Treadway, Joe Oliver, Lenny Harris, Rob Murphy, Nick Esasky and Terry McGriff among others. In 1989 he became assistant vice president of baseball operations for the Seattle Mariners. Zuraw also worked in the front office of the Pirates and spent time as a Tampa Bay Devil Rays scout. He retired in 2007.
