Biographical Information[edit]
Marty DeMerritt was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 22nd round of the 1971 amateur draft and played 8 seasons in the minors for the Cardinals, Milwaukee Brewers, and Houston Astros.
DeMerritt was head coach at Lowell High School in 1982, then began his pro coaching career with the San Francisco Giants organization in 1983 and he has also applied his trade in the Far East, coaching pitchers in Korea.
DeMerritt was pitching coach of the Clinton Giants in 1983, Fresno Giants in 1985, Shreveport Captains in 1986-1987, Phoenix Firebirds in 1988-1989 , and spent time as interim pitching coach for the San Francisco Giants that summer as well. He was also the pitching coach for the Chicago Cubs in 1999.
DeMerritt was pitching coach of the Erie Sailors in 1992, High Desert Mavericks in 1993, Portland Sea Dogs in 1994, Orlando Cubs in 1995-19967, and Iowa Cubs in 1997-1998, then was the minor league pitching coordinator for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2000. He has been in the Tampa Bay Devil Rays chain since 2001. He was the pitching coach of the Bakersfield Blaze from 2001 to 2003, Charleston RiverDogs in 2004 and Visalia Oaks in 2005 and 2006. DeMerritt was the pitching coach of the Princeton Devil Rays in 2007-2011, GCL Rays in 2012-2017 and 2019, and FCL Rays in 2021-2022.
DeMerritt goes by the nickname "Dog" and is a huge fan of Hulk Hogan.
