After playing their inaugual season at Grand Canyon College the Rafters moved to Tempe, AZ in 1993 and were renamed the Tempe Rafters. The team won the AFL championship their first year in Tempe. In 1997 they moved to Scottsdale, AZ and became the Grand Canyon Rafters.
