Arizona League

Arizona League.jpg

The complex-based Arizona League was formed in 1988 as a western alternative to the Gulf Coast League. A rookie circuit, it held just four teams in its first season. The league has historically been based in the Phoenix suburban area, but from 1998-2000 there were four teams in Tucson, AZ. Due to the heavy expense of scouting and player development, major league officials were considering shutting down one or both of the complex leagues after the 2005 season. However, the league continued until 2019, then was shut down by the Coronavirus pandemic in 2020 and, through the minor league reorganization of 2021 was reorganized as the Arizona Complex League.
