Biographical Information

Pitcher Daniel Haigwood was signed by the Chicago White Sox and scout Alex Slattery as the 16th round pick in the 2002 amateur draft and made his pro debut that summer with the AZL White Sox, going 8-4 with a 2.28 ERA and 74 strikeouts and leading the Arizona League in wins. After missing the entire 2003 campaign due to knee surgery, he spent the next year with the Kannapolis Intimidators and went 10-4 with a 4.76 ERA and 99 strikeouts in 21 starts. He began 2005 with the Winston-Salem Warthogs, going 8-2 with a 3.77 ERA in 15 starts before being promoted in July to the Birmingham Barons, where he went 6-1 with a 1.74 ERA in 11 outings.

Following the 2005 season, Haigwood was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies along with Aaron Rowand and Gio Gonzalez for Jim Thome. He began 2006 with the Reading Phillies and went 2-5 with a 3.54 ERA in 15 games there. In June, he was traded to the Texas Rangers for Fabio Castro, and he spent the remainder of the year with the Frisco RoughRiders, going 1-2 with a 3.63 ERA in a dozen starts.

In April 2007, Haigwood was traded once again, this time being sent to the Boston Red Sox for Scott Shoemaker. He primarily played for the Portland Sea Dogs that season and posted a 3-5 record and a 5.74 ERA in 17 games there.
