Biographical Information[edit]

In 2008, Joe McEwing was the hitting coach for the Charlotte Knights. In 2009 he managed in the minor leagues for the first time, with the Winston-Salem Dash. In 2012, he became the third base coach of the Chicago White Sox, under manager Robin Ventura. In 2017, he moved to bench coach under Rick Renteria. In August of 2018, he subbed for Renteria for a couple of games when the manager was hospitalized for light-headedness. With the appointment of Tony LaRussa as manager in 2021, he moved back to coaching third base.

In 2023, he moved to the St. Louis Cardinals as bench coach, taking over when Matt Holliday, who had originally accepted the job, changed his mind in January. He only stayed that one season, however.
