Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Gustavo Espinoza was signed by scout Carlos Porte for the Anaheim Angels in 2004. He made his pro debut that summer for the DSL Angels, going 6-2 with a 1.36 ERA. He allowed only 46 hits and 16 walks in 92 innings while striking out 105. With the Navegantes del Magallanes that winter, he allowed two earned runs in 1 1/3 IP. He split 2005 between the AZL Angels (5-3, 3.84, 78 K, 12 BB in 70 1/3 IP), Orem Owlz (2 R in 2 IP) and Cedar Rapids Kernels (2 R, 1 ER in 5 1/3 IP, 1-0). He tied for 5th in the Arizona League in wins and led in whiffs (5 ahead of Zach Phillips) and was 8th in ERA (between T.J. Franco and Juan Jimenez). Baseball America listed him as the #20 prospecti n the AZL. He walked 5 and allowed 2 earned runs in 5 2/3 IP for the 2005-2006 Navegantes. After not pitching in summer ball (presumably due to injury), he had a 2.61 ERA in 9 outings for Magallanes in 2006-2007 to end his Venezuelan League career. He allowed one run in 1 1/3 IP for the AZL Angels in 2007 to end his minor league career.
