Team History[edit]

21 of the players supplied for the AZL Rockies/Cubs came from the Colorado Rockies (who only had one other team in the organization at the time - the Bend Rockies), while the Chicago Cubs sent 12.

All-Star 1B Greg Boyd (.297/~.384/.469) was the offensive star, leading the team with 57 hits, 16 2B, 3 HR, 31 RBI, and 27 BB. One of the Cub players, 1B-OF Alex Cabrera hit .207/~.251/.259 with 1 HR and 19 RBI in 135 AB; he later would hit a record-tying 55 HR in Nippon Pro Baseball. SS-3B Mauricio Gonzalez (.345/~.370/.439) was second in the league in average. Chris Neier was 5-1, 2.24 ERA in 56 IP, while Jon Goodrich (4-1, 3.45) tied Bill Metzinger (2-3, 3.41) with 3 saves. Somehow, Rosmel Blanco (0-0, 70.88) was allowed to walk 18, strike out none and give up 21 ER in 2 2/3 IP. Future MLB pitcher Jeremi Gonzalez was only 0-5, 7.80 and led the AZL in both runs allowed (89) and hit batsmen (10).
