Biographical Information[edit]

Dave Myers has played, coached and managed in the minors for over 20 years and also coached in the majors for a time. He played in the Seattle Mariners system from 1981 to 1988, spending the last year as a player/coach with the Vermont Mariners.

Myers was taken by the Seattle Mariners in the 13th round of the 1981 amateur draft, starting a 26-year association with the organization. He debuted by hitting .249/~.323/.351 for the Bellingham Mariners. His .963 fielding percentage led Northwest League shortstops by a wide margin as he made just 11 errors in 64 games.

He split 1982 between Bellingham (.281/~.388/.335, 14 steals in 16 tries) and the Bakersfield Mariners (.147/~.321/.211). In 1983, Myers made the first of a handful of pitching appearances in the minors. He improved significantly at the plate, though, with the Wausau Timbers, hitting .301/~.367/.406 and stealing 26 bases in 35 tries. He was 8th in the Midwest League in batting average, pretty good for a middle infielder.

In 1984, Dave was on the Salinas Spurs and batting .258/~.310/.301. He hit no homers and was thrown out in 15 of 36 steal attempts. He led California League shortstops in fielding percentage, though, at .948. Myers made it to AA in 1985 with the Chattanooga Lookouts. His first year on the team, he hit .241/~.305/.268 as a utility infielder. Returning to the Lookouts in 1986, Dave batted .289/~.342/.403.

As a third baseman for Chattanooga, Myers hit .328 to edge out Ken Caminiti for the 1987 Southern League batting crown. Myers had an OBP around .367 and slugged .459. He also led the league with 160 hits. While Caminiti got the SL nod as the All-Star third baseman, Myers was chosen as the utility man for the team.

In 1988, Myers finished his playing career with the Vermont Mariners as a player-coach; in 41 games, he hit just .181/~.231/.196.

Myers was then a manager in the Mariners chain from 1989 to 2000. He was the big league Mariners' third base coach from 2001 to 2004 and was a special assignment coach in 2005. In 2006 he was a coach for the Everett AquaSox.

Myers left the Mariners' organization for the first time as coach of the Buffalo Bisons in the Cleveland Indians' in 2007-2008. He then moved to the Tampa Bay Rays chain with the Durham Bulls in 2009-2014.
