Biographical information[edit]
Catcher Keith Champion played in the St. Louis Cardinals organization from 1982 to 1984, hitting .214 in 143 games and never advancing past A ball. After his playing career, he was a coach for the Savannah Cardinals in 1985, Springfield Cardinals in 1986, Arkansas Travelers in 1987, and managed in the minors from 1988 to 1994.
Champion was an advance scout for the Chicago Cubs from 1995 to 1999, and a Special Assistant to the General Manager from 2000 to 2006. He was then a scout for the Boston Red Sox in 2007-2008 and in 2009 is a Special Assistant to the General Manager for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He is now (2011) a major league scout for the Pirates.
His brother, Kirk Champion, has worked in the Chicago White Sox organization as a pitching instructor.
