Biographical Information[edit]

Dave Hudgens spent a month in the major leagues, in September of 1983 with the Oakland Athletics. He went 1 for 7, playing 3 games at first base and one as the team's designated hitter.

Hudgens managed the Medford Athletics in 1986-1987 and AZL Athletics in 1988. He was an Oakland Athletics coach in 1999 and again from 2003 to 2005. In 2007 and 2008, he was the Cleveland Indians minor league field coordinator.

He became the hitting coach of the New York Mets in 2011 and held the position until May 26, 2014, when he was fired because of his charges' poor performance. He was replaced by minor league hitting coordinator Lamar Johnson. In 2015, he was hired by the Houston Astros as hitting coach. In 2019, he joined the Toronto Blue Jays as bench coach under newly-appointed manager Charlie Montoyo and stayed until the end of the 2021 season. He returned to the coaching staff in 2023 as major league hitting strategist but left after the season.
