Biographical Information[edit]
Outfielder Bert Hunter was drafted by the Houston Astros in the 2nd round of the 1985 amateur draft. He led the 1988 Florida State League with 148 strikeouts, and never made the majors. He stole 285 bases in his minor league career. Originally a right-handed batter, he became a switch-hitter starting in 1988.
After his playing career, Hunter coached the Jackson Generals in 1997, Salem-Keizer Volcanoes in 1998-2000 and the Hagerstown Suns in 2001. He was the manager of the AZL Giants from 2002 to 2007, before spending 2008 as hitting coach of the same team. In 2009 he became an assistant coach at Willamette University, a position he still held in 2017.
