Biographical Information[edit]

Catcher Jose Carreno played in the Montreal Expos chain from 1996 to 2002, then spent one year in the independent Frontier League in 2003. Carreno reached as high as AA in 2001-2002.

He debuted in 1996, hitting .239 for the DSL Expos. In '97, he batted .304 for San Joaquin 1; had he qualified, he would have been in the top 10 in the Venezuelan Summer League. He came stateside in 1998, playing for the GCL Expos (.284/.315/.336) and Jupiter Hammerheads (7 for 28, 2B, 2 HR, 2 BB). He played in 1999 for the Cape Fear Crocs (.221/.252/.236 in 41 G) and Jupiter (0 for 6). He was with the same two clubs in 2000, hitting a combined .279/.354/.306 in 56 games. In 2001, he played for the Harrisburg Senators but struggled at .158/.237/.167 in 40 games. He split 2002 between Harrisburg (8 for 42, HR, 2 BB) and the Brevard County Manatees (.225/.282/.353 in 36 G). He wrapped up his career with the independent Mid-Missouri Mavericks in 2003 (.263/.323/.347).

Carreno was a coach for the Savannah Sand Gnats in 2008-2009, St. Lucie Mets in 2010, Savannah again in 2011, and St. Lucie again 2012. He was on the St. Lucie staff to begin 2013 until he became a manager with the GCL Mets in June. Carreno managed the GCL Marlins again in 2014.
