Team History[edit]
The Clearwater Threshers, of the Single-A Florida State League and briefly in Low-A Southeast, are one of the better-drawing teams in their lightly attended circuit. The Philadelphia Phillies farmhands play their home games at BayCare Ballpark in Clearwater, FL.
The 2017 Threshers were only the second FSL team ever to draw 200,000 in one season, and one of a handful ever to draw more than 10,000 to one date. Like most FSL teams, their house baseball record crowd is for a spring-training game - but it only beats their top FSL gate by 1,285.
Founded as the Clearwater Phillies in 1985, they changed nicknames via a contest when their new playpen opened as Bright House Field in 2004. The club occasionally uses a contest runner-up, Beach Dogs, as an alternate brand.
MLB's 2021 Minor League Reorganization lowered the Threshers, and most of the FSL, one level.
Like seven of the other nine FSL teams, they are owned by their parent club.
