Biographical Information[edit]
Scott Lovekamp has been a minor league pitcher and coach, a scout and a college pitching coach.
Lovekamp was taken by the San Diego Padres in the 32nd round of the 1980 amateur draft, one pick before Colin Ward. He was 4-6 with a 4.40 ERA that summer for the Grays Harbor Loggers. He tied for third in the Northwest League with ten wild pitches. In 1981, he improved to 10-9, 4.13 for the Salem Redbirds. He fell to 1-4, 4.66 for Salem in 1982 to end his career as a player.
Lovekamp was pitching coach at the University of Florida from 1988-1991, then joined the Padres again, this time as a scout. He later would also scout for the New York Yankees, signing David Adams, Bryan Mitchell, D.J. Mitchell and Adam Warren among others. In between, he was pitching coach for the Augusta Greenjackets in 1997-1998, Altoona Curve in 1999 and 2001, Lynchburg Hillcats in 2000 and 2003-2004, Hickory Crawdads in 2002, and Clearwater Threshers in 2005-2006.
