Biographical Information[edit]

Catcher Dusty Wathan is the son of John Wathan and the brother of Derek Wathan.

Dusty had a great major league career line of .600/.667/.800 as he went 3-for-5 in the majors. During a long career in the minors he normally hit around .270, although he hit .325 in 64 games in AAA ball in 2000.

Wathan retired as a player after the 2007 season and immediately joined the coaching ranks in the Philadelphia Phillies organization. As detailed below, Wathan gradually climbed the minor league ladder and reached AAA in 2017. The Phillies promoted him to the major league coaching staff in 2018 as their third base coach. Wathan remained the third base coach through the 2023 season.
