Biographical Information[edit]

Infielder Edgar Alfonzo played in the minor leagues from 1985 to 1996.

Alfonzo was a coach for the St. Lucie Mets in 1998-1999, then obtained his first managerial job with the Kingsport Mets in 2000. He managed the Brooklyn Cyclones in 2001, then was the hitting coach for St. Lucie in 2002 and Binghamton Mets in 2003. He spent 2004-2006 as the New York Mets’ Minor League Infield Coordinator. He was a coach for the GCL Astros in 2011-2012, then managed the team in 2013. Alfonzo was a coach for the GCL Tigers in 2014-2015 and West Michigan Whitecaps in 2016.

Alfonzo is the older brother of Edgardo Alfonzo and Roberto Alfonzo and the father of minor league pitcher Edgar Alfonzo, Jr.. Another son, Giovanny Alfonzo, has played in the minors.
