Biographical Information[edit]
The brother of Edgardo Alfonzo and Edgar Alfonzo and uncle of Edgar Alfonzo Jr., Roberto Alfonzo played two years in the minors. He hit .261/~.322/.276 in 40 games for the 1993 GCL Mets as the regular second baseman. In 1994, he was 0 for 1 for the St. Lucie Mets and hit .241/.323/.241 in 28 games for the Kingsport Mets. At the time, his brother was one of the top Mets prospects. Another brother, Edgar Alfonzo, played in the California Angels and Baltimore Orioles organizations.
Alfonzo is an international scout for the New York Mets, having signed Ezequiel Carrera, Wilmer Flores, Marcos Tabata, Wilfredo Tovar and Juan Urbina.
