Biographical Information[edit]
The son of Ugueth Urbina and brother of Ugueth Urbina Jr., Juan Urbina turned pro in 2010.
Urbina signed with the New York Mets in 2009 for a reported $1.2 million; the scouts were Sandy Johnson, Ramon Pena, Ismael Cruz and Roberto Alfonzo. He debuted with the GCL Mets in 2010, going 5-3 with a 5.03 ERA for the GCL Mets. Baseball America rated him as the #6 prospect in the Gulf Coast League, between Matt Lipka and Jesse Biddle. In 2011, he was 4-6 with a 5.95 ERA for the Kingsport Mets.
