Biographical Information[edit]

Ramon Pena has been a long-time scout.

Born in the Dominican Republic, Pena moved to New York City as a kid. He played baseball in high school and college. The 2011 Indians Media Guide says that he played two seasons in the Pittsburgh Pirates farm chain but no one named Pena or Ramon Pena was in the Buc system at that time.

Pena was a scout for the Kansas City Royals for four years, signing Melido Perez and Jose Nunez. From 1985-2006, he worked for the Detroit Tigers as a scout, signing Danny Bautista, Bobby Higginson, Francisco Cordero, Jose Lima, Fernando Rodney, Ramon Santiago, Freddy Dolsi, Gonzalez Germen, Omar Infante, Frank Catalanotto, Eulogio de la Cruz, Guillermo Moscoso, Randor Bierd, Luis Marte, Lester Oliveros, Maikel Cleto, Gorkys Hernandez, Wilkin Ramírez, Rhiner Cruz, Audy Ciriaco, Martires Arias, Juan Carlos Moncion, Brayan Villarreal, José Ramírez, Jhonathan Torres, Miller Diaz, Luis Lugo and Ramon Garcia.

From 2007-2009, Pena was Special Assistant to the General Manager of the New York Mets. He then moved to the Cleveland Indians as Director of Latin American Operations (as of 2013), signing Manuel Boscán, Robel Garcia, Yonathan Mendoza, Jhonleider Salinas, Charlie Valerio and Anthony Vizcaya.
