Biographical Information[edit]

Jhonathan Torres pitched three seasons in the minor leagues.

He was signed by Boston Red Sox scouts Ramon Pena, Ismael Cruz and Luis Marquez in November 2007. In his pro debut, he had a 5-2, 3.39 record for the 2008 VSL Mets and was named team MVP. He tied for 6th in the Venezuelan Summer League in wins. He split 2009 between the GCL Mets (4-0, 0.82, 6 H, 22 K in 22 IP) and Kingsport Mets (2-4, 4.87). He was the main hurler in a combined no-hitter of the GCL Nationals on July 11, relieving Salvador Aguilar after one perfect inning as Aguilar was on a rehab assignment. Torres pitched 4 1/3 more perfect innings before issuing a walk and left with 6 IP, 8 K and 3 BB. Marcos Tabata tossed the final two innings of the no-no. Jhonathan was 1-1 with a 5.29 ERA for Kingsport in 2010, whiffing 47 in 34 innings. He ended his career with the 2010-2011 Leones del Caracas, getting rocked for 6 hits, 6 walks and 7 runs in 3 2/3 IP. Overall, he had gone 12-7 with a 3.82 ERA in 41 games (27 starts) in the minors. In 160 1/3 IP, he allowed 162 hits and 45 walks while striking out 144.
