The University of Tampa is a NCAA Division 2 National powerhouse every year. In the 2005 season, UT was ranked as the number 1 team in the country for the majority of the year. In 2005, they made it to the NCAA South Region final where they lost to eventual National Champion and arch rival Florida Southern College. The University of Tampa is located in downtown Tampa. FL and has produced several Major League Baseball players. The two most famous baseball alumni from this Sunshine State Conference powerhouse are Tino Martinez of the New York Yankees, and former Tampa Bay Devil Rays manager Lou Piniella. Tino was an All-American infielder at UT in 1986, 1987, and 1988. Former major league outfielder Ozzie Timmons was an All American for the Spartans as well in the year of 1991.
