Biographical Information

Shortstop Audy Ciriaco is the brother of Pedro Ciriaco and Moises Ciriaco and cousin of Juan Aneuris Ciriaco and Juan Manuel Ciriaco. He was signed by Detroit Tigers scout Ramon Pena in 2005. He made his pro debut that summer with the GCL Tigers and finished fourth in the Gulf Coast League with 4 triples. He hit .250/.299/.421. He also made 17 errors, one shy of GCL leader Michael Jones. He spent the next season in the Gulf Coast League as well, batting .217/.258/.337 with 9 steals in 10 tries. He made 15 errors, 5 shy of the league lead but did lead all GCL shortstops with 31 double plays.

He spent the following two seasons with the West Michigan Whitecaps of the Midwest League. He hit .224/.254/.311 in 2007 but made only 24 errors in 121 games, a much lower rate than his first two seasons. That winter, he hit .308 for the Escogido Lions. In '08, Ciriaco batted .240/.269/.343 and led MWL shortstops with 41 miscues.

With the Lakeland Flying Tigers in 2009, he hit .262/.296/.397 (.320 versus left-handers) with 11 home runs and 15 steals in 19 tries, and he also appeared in 7 games at the AAA level with the Toledo Mud Hens, going 4 for 25 with a walk. He led Florida State League shortstops with 161 putouts and 342 assists. Baseball America rated him as having the best infield arm in the FSL.
