Team History[edit]
The Leones del Escogido (Escogido Lions) are a team in the Dominican League. Through 2025, they have won 18 national championships and five Caribbean Series, most recently in 2025.
Founded in 1921, the club is based out of Santo Domingo. Felipe Alou, Jesus Alou, Matty Alou, Juan Marichal, David Ortiz, Sammy Sosa, and Alex Rodriguez are among the most famous players to appear on the Lions' roster over the years. Albert Pujols was their manager when they won their most recent title, in 2025.
Former major leaguer Moises Alou began work as the general manager for the Leones in 2010, winning three championships in his first four years (2009-10, 2011-12 and 2012-13). Ken Oberkfell was their manager during that very successful run.
